Alder and Oak
Finding Connection Through the Sacred
In the Celtic Tradition, it is understood that three trees, known as the guardians, protect sacred places. Overall, trees held a sacred place, marking people’s births and providing an understanding of our characters, our strengths. As a practice, it’s important for us to note those strengths and acknowledge how they play a part in the process of therapy.
Alder and oak marks strengths that the professionals of our organization try to bring to therapeutic work. The oak marks strength. Through Irish mythology, a heritage that both Diana and Casey share, the oak represents honesty, truth and courage. These are qualities we see in our clients, and we know that the importance in the therapeutic process.
The alder represents a healthy environment, a fertile earth, which promotes healing. There was also a belief that the alder represented a balance between the male and female, an idea that Diana and Casey stay conscious of, that they attempt to keep in balance. The alder, when cut down, turns from white to red, representing the wound and how it’s important to treat with respect and provide a safe place to heal.
These are the strengths that Casey and Diana bring to the work you are considering doing. What is not in the name, but is implicit, is each clients tree. The goal would be to find your guardian, what strengths you have to provide you a sacred place to heal, to protect you in the world at large.
We are excited to have the chance to help you find your guardian.
